Using aerial photography, the Los Angeles River has been mapped in a 16-page document showing sections of the river that are lined (concrete walled) or unlined (natural river bottom). These photographs show the river only within the City of Los Angeles’ boundaries.

The photographs begin at the confluence of the Bell and Channels in the ** and continue southeast, winding around Griffith Park, and ending at the Vernon city limits. The Los Angeles River total length is 51 miles terminating at the Long Beach/San Pedro Harbor. These images, taken from approximately 20,000 feet, were made in 1996.
