As mandated by the Federal NPDES permit, the City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works has undertaken many pollution control measures in keeping harmful wastes and runoff from entering our receiving waters.

These efforts include:

Under the Stormwater Management Program, several BMPs were installed throughout the city: Sand Filters, Catch Basin Inserts, Infiltration Trenches, Oil & Grease, sediment separator, and Low Flow Diversion system.

Monitoring each BMP system is essential to evaluate the performance of each system based on removal efficiency, effectiveness, maintenance, and cost. This will be obtained through analysis of water quality, flow, precipitation data for monitored storm events, frequency of maintenance to prevent clogging, and cost of disposal. In addition, collected data can be used to recommend certain BMPs for different future projects that require the implementation of stormwater management.
