TreePeople To Host Rainwater Harvesting Workshops

We’re not used to seeing rainy weather in October here in LA, but that’s exactly what we got earlier this month. The showers reminded those with rain barrels that it was time to get them ready for the coming winter rains. And, the falling rain drops were the prefect prompt for those Angelenos who are interested in harvesting rainwater but haven’t quite gotten around to installing a rain barrel yet.

If you fall into the latter group, our friends at TreePeople can help you out! TreePeople has two rainwater harvesting events coming up in the next two months. Here’s the 411 on the upcoming events:

Saturday, November 12, 2016

Rainwater Harvesting Workshop

9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

12601 Mulholland Drive, Beverly Hills, CA  90210

Reservations are required for each person attending this workshop. There are 37 slots available for this workshop and the registration deadline is November 10.

At the November 12 workshop, residents will be able to pre-order and purchase a rain barrel for $85 as well as learn how to install a rain barrel. Los Angeles residents have the added bonus of being eligible to receive a rain barrel rebate, available through the LA Department of Water and Power for up to four rain barrels.

Saturday, December 3, 2016

I have a rain barrel but the screen on the top has gone missing. I’m trying to find a replacement. I tried Home Depot and they said they don’t even stock rain barrels anymore. Any ideas on where I can find a replacement screen? Thanks.

      Hi Mary,
We don’t have any specific vendors for replacements. You may try finding one online or alternatively, you may try fashioning one yourself. Also, since TreePeople are doing workshops, their workshop facilitators may also have some suggestions. They can be reached at Good luck!
