Lovin’ LA Lakes Photo Contest

Ever notice the number of references to water in basketball? There’s a lot of dribbling and dunking that takes place in a game. On top of that, here in LA, one of our home teams is named after a lake, or more specifically 10,000 lakes. Originally from Minnesota, which is known as the “land of 10,000 lakes,” the world-class basketball team retained their Lakers name when they relocated to Los Angeles in 1960.

While LA can’t even begin to boast 10,000 lakes, we do have a handful of man-made lakes – Lake Balboa, Debs Lake, Hollenbeck Lake and Lincoln Lake to name just a few – and we are proud of the value they add to the quality of life for Angelenos and wildlife alike. Echo Park Lake, a favorite of many, is currently undergoing a major refurbishment and revitalization, compliments of Proposition O, the water quality improvement measure passed by LA voters in 2004. A second lake, Lake Machado, which is located in Kenneth Malloy Harbor Regional Park, is scheduled for a major renovation beginning in 2013, also courtesy of Proposition O.

With the LA Lakers’ season in full swing and love still in the air from Valentine’s Day, we thought it would be fun to show Los Angeles’ lakes some love with a photo contest. And since our team sports a lakes-themed name, the winner will receive a pair of free tickets to see the LA Lakers take on the Memphis Grizzlies at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, April 5, 2013  at the Staples Center.

Entering the photo contest is as easy as dribbling a ball down a court:

1. Take a photo of a favorite Los Angeles lake.

2. Upload your photo using the form below – please no files larger than 20 mb.

3. Include your name, e-mail address and a short description of your photo. Be sure and include why you chose the lake you did.

4. Submit your photo by the contest deadline, which is Friday, March 8, 2013.

We’ll post the submitted photos on LA Stormwater’s Facebook page. Don’t forget to like us so you can view and then share your photo! Feel free to also share this promotion. On Tuesday March 12, 2013 we’ll announce the photographer whose entry scored a slam dunk and won the photo contest on LA Stormwater’s Facebook page.

Good luck everyone!

Thank you to the anonymous donor of two Lakers’ tickets.
