Los Angeles To Celebrate Grand Re-Opening of Garvanza Park

The Honorable Councilmember Jose Huizar of the 14th District and officials from the Bureau of Sanitation and Department of Recreation and Parks invite you to celebrate the completion of the Garvanza Park Rainwater Capture Facility and the installation of new fitness equipment. The Grand Re-opening will take place at 9 a.m. on Thursday, March 15, 2012 at Garvanza Park, 6240 Meridian St., Los Angeles, CA  90042.

The new rainwater capture facility will divert urban runoff from an existing storm drain and capture it for cleaning and storage in two underground cisterns. One chamber will allow captured water to infiltrate into the soil to help replenish groundwater. The other chamber will store water for subsurface irrigation at the park. This improvement will protect water quality in the Arroyo Seco and and the Los Angeles River while conserving precious potable water.
