The image at left shows the sewer system which takes wastewater from your home and carries it to the City's Hyperion Treatment Plant for processing and filtration. It is then discharged into the ocean.

The storm drain system however (roll mouse over image), takes rainwater runoff and routes it directly--untreated---into our ocean.
So whatever is on the street, whether it's motor oil that drips from cars, trash or cigarette butts carelessly tossed from a window--it all finds its way to the bay.
