Thankful for Friends

by Joyce Amaro, LA Stormwater

Earlier this month, we here at LA Stormwater had a Best Friends-themed weekend in more ways than one. Two of our staff members attended the NKLA Best Friends Super Adoption at the La Brea Tar Pits, distributing free dog waste bag canisters and tip cards to potential dog adopters. That very same weekend, I had the pleasure of visiting the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary located in Kanab, UT. My family and I had driven to Zion National Park over the long Veteran’s Day holiday, and on Saturday, November 8 we made a special trip to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, which is located about 60 miles southeast of Zion. My husband and I had visited Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in 2005, but this was the first time our seven-year old son had been to the sanctuary. He loved learning about the 1,700 animals who call the sanctuary their home, asked if we could adopt every cat or dog he met, and is ready to volunteer.

As we enter this time of thanksgiving, I’d like to take this opportunity to say how very grateful I am for the furry friends who grace my life and how thankful I am to Best Friends Animal Society for the life-saving work they do throughout the United States. I’m also grateful for the partnership we enjoy with them to get our pick-up–after-your dog message out to Angelenos. Whether it’s participating in Strut Your Mutt events to get dog waste bag canisters on dog’s leashes or distributing educational materials at NKLA Super Adoptions, Best Friends has always been a great partner in getting our environmental message to LA’s dog owners. We look forward to growing our relationship in the years to come.

I’ve included a few photos from my trip to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary for you to enjoy. And, remember! If your turkey day plans include a hike or walk with your favorite pooch, don’t forget to pick up after your own furry friend. We’d be more than happy to send you a canister of free waste dog bags. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
