SAFE Centers Now Gobble Up Turkey Frying Oil

In preparation for the coming holiday season, LA Sanitation is now accepting household fryer oil at local SAFE (Solvents, Automotive, Flammables, Electronics) Centers, announces LA Sanitation Executive Director Enrique C. Zaldivar.  “If you are frying a turkey for the holidays, remember that pouring the oil down the kitchen sink or drain can clog your house plumbing and sewer pipes and may cause sewage backups and overflows,” said Zaldivar.  “Recycling fryer oil will help protect our environment as you celebrate the holidays. LA Sanitation will recycle the oil for fuel and energy,”

When recycling the oil, make sure that it is delivered in a closed leak-proof container (such as a store container) and take it to one of six LA Sanitation SAFE Centers:

N. CENTRAL LOS ANGELES – 4600 Colorado Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90030, Sat & Sun 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

EAST VALLEY – 11025 Randall St., Sun Valley, CA 91352, Saturday & Sunday 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

NORTH VALLEY – 10241 N. Balboa Blvd., Northridge, CA 91325, Saturday & Sunday 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

EAST LOS ANGELES – 2649 E. Washington Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90021, Saturday & Sunday 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

HARBOR – 1400 N. Gaffey St., San Pedro, CA 90731, Saturday & Sunday 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

PLAYA DEL REY – 7660 W. Imperial, Gate B, Playa Del Rey, CA 90293, Saturday & Sunday 9 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Please limit fryer oil to 10 gallons or less.  “No oil will be accepted from businesses,” said Zaldivar, “and the UCLA SAFE Center in West Los Angeles, 550 Charles E. Young Dr. West, will not accept cooking oil.”

Those who do not wish to bring fryer oil to a SAFE Center should put the sealed container in the black collections bin.  For more information, visit LA Sanitation or contact LA Sanitation’s Hotline: 1-800-773-CITY (2489).
