Come Celebrate Migrating Gray Whales!

Ready to go whale watching? Ready to learn more about the Pacific Gray Whales that are migrating along Southern California’s coast this time of year?

Then the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium’s Whale Fiesta, scheduled from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. this coming Sunday, January 27, 2013 is the place for you! Celebrating its 43rd anniversary, this annual event is a fun-filled family festival that is co-sponsored by the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium and the Los Angeles Chapter of the American Cetacean Society. More than 20 marine life organizations will be at the Whale Fiesta, providing information about their efforts to raise awareness and provide protection for Pacific Gray Whales. Look for LA Stormwater to also have a table at this event. While you’re there, come on by and say hello to our hardworking staff!

This year, the Whale Fiesta’s activities will include talks from expert Cabrillo Whalewatch naturalists, the creation of a life-sized Pacific gray whale made completely out of sand and a Great Duct Tape Whale Contest, where model whales and other sea creatures are created with just duct tape by participants of all ages. During the fiesta’s grand finale, Whale Dynamics will transform participants into a single “living whale.”

The best part of the Whale Fiesta is that all the activities are free! Come on by to learn more about Pacific Gray Whales as well as the fascinating marine life that live just off our coast and how you can make a difference in protecting these magnificent creatures.

Here’s where the fun will be happening!
