Work Like (And With) A Dog

By Joyce Amaro, LA Stormwater Public Education Manager

I don’t know about you, but I love the idea of taking my dog to work! Dodger, my 10-year old furry friend, would be the perfect office companion. He’d keep my feet warm during the winter, remind me that occasional breaks are important, and keep my workmates happy with his wagging tail and plentiful pooch smooches!

So, I’m looking forward to the opportunity to bring Dodger to the office on June 22, which is the official Take Your Dog To Work Day this year. First celebrated in 1999, Pet Sitters International’s Take Your Dog To Work Day was created to celebrate dogs and encourage their adoption from humane societies, animal shelters and breed rescue clubs. This annual event asks pet lovers to celebrate the humane-canine bond and promote pet adoption. Employers are encouraged to open their workplace to employees’ four-legged friends on this one special day.

And I wouldn’t be doing my part to keep the environment clean if I didn’t have my Bags on Board dog waste bags with me on June 22. Dodger and I took a pledge long ago to be responsible stewards of the environment we and always pick up after him, whether that’s in our back yard, on a walk in our neighborhood or taking a short break at the office. If you haven’t taken this pledge already, June 22 is a great day to do it. Send us an e-mail at lastormwater@lacity.org with the following pledge “I pledge to always pick up after (insert dog’s name) to keep our waterways and communities clean,” and we’ll send you a free canister of dog waste bags as a thank you.

So, talk to your office manager about participating in Take Your Dog To Work Day this year on June 22. It’ll be a fun day for you and your canine friend. And, don’t forget to send us your pledge to claim your free canister of dog waste bags. Woof!
