Mighty Machines Keep Communities Mighty Clean

By Joyce Amaro, LA Stormwater Public Education Manager

If any of you have young children in your lives, you’ll know how fascinating “mighty machines” can be! My 4-year old son absolutely adores bulldozers and planes and boats and trucks – especially garbage and recycling trucks. Friday is my day off and it also happens to be our collection services pick-up day. There isn’t a Friday morning that goes by where we’re not racing out our back door to watch in “mouth-wide-open aaaah!” as the garbage and recycling trucks roll down our alley.

An opportunity to see these “mighty machines” up close and personal is happening all throughout June as LA Sanitation presents its 10th Annual Discover Recycling Sanitation Open Houses. At these free events, children and adults of all ages will have the opportunity meet Sanitation collection truck drivers, enjoy truck demonstrations and tour facilities as well as receive information about LA Sanitation’s many services.
