Earth-Friendly Events Abound in April
With Spring officially all around us, it’s time to get outdoors and enjoy some environmental fun with friends and family. Since April 22 is Earth Day, this month is filled with earth-friendly events, including gardening-themed events, an LA river clean-up and a paddleboard race!
> Join fellow garden enthusiasts weekly at Transition LA’s Work Together in the Garden events in both Westchester and Redondo Beach.
> Need some inspiration for your own garden? Check out Theodore Payne’s Native Plants Garden Tour on April 14 and 15th. The tour will feature 37 Los Angeles-area gardens showcasing native plants and smart gardening practices. On April 21, the 4th annual Mar Vista Green Garden Showcase takes place. The free tour is comprised of 90 different drought-resistant and edible gardens broken into six compact self-guided walking tours throughout Mar Vista.
> It’s a beautiful time of year to visit the coast! Cabrillo Marine Aquarium in San Pedro celebrates its Annual Earth Day Bird Fest on Saturday, April 21. Activities will include a beach clean-up of Cabrillo’s Coastal Park and a Salt Marsh Open House. Go and explore the ways you can make a difference in protecting this fragile place we can Earth!
> Paddleboard race, anyone? On April 21, just north of the Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica Baykeeper will host its inaugural Stand Up for Clean Water Paddleboard Race and Festival celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Clean Water Act.
> The Friends of the LA River celebrates more than two decades of river clean-ups with their 23rd annual La Gran Limpieza on April 28. Bring the whole family and be a part of this event that features clean-up locations along the entire length of the Los Angeles River.
> Best Friends Animal Society wraps up April with a two-day super pet adoption at the La Brea Tar Pits on April 28 and 29. LA Stormwater will be at this bi-annual mega-event, passing out free dog waste bags to attendees! Come by our booth and visit us!

Thanks for the feedback! This was the first one sponsored by the Santa Monica Baykeeper. It would be great if they decided to do this event on an annual basis.
