July on the Fly: Your Clean Water Events Roundup is Here!

If you are like the majority of Angelenos, you likely have a lot of fun summer activities planned. We understand, the sun is out and the beach is calling. There is a lot to do! That’s why we’re making it easy for you to find a great clean water event to take part in this month.

> Every Thursday TreePeople and friends will be in Coldwater Canyon Park planting trees and making the 45-acre park more user friendly.

> On Friday, July 8th Transition LA will be hosting a great community garden event at Adams Middle School where veteran and beginner gardeners will be sharing tips on how to grow your own produce. Produce benefits families via House of Yahweh or other local food pantries.

> On Saturday, July 9th the California Native Plant Society will have a La Sierra Restoration Day in Agoura Hills to plant and weed, Green LA Coalition will be teaching compost courses and the Theodore Payne Foundation will explain why ripping up your lawn isn’t a bad thing.

> On Sunday, July 10th CicLAvia will be hosting a community group bike ride, and they are looking for fellow bicyclists! If biking isn’t your thing, but hiking is, Friends of Ballona Wetlands will be hosting an informative nature tour of the salt marsh and dunes on the same day.

> ”Don’t let Summer be a Bummer for LA’s Trees” says TreePeople. On Saturday, July 16th the community organization will be holding a tree plant outing in Sherman Oaks Park. TreePeople will also care for 12,600 trees in the Angeles National Forest.

> Water and power in the City of LA is about to change dramatically. To help you keep up on all of these happenings the LA Department of Water and Power is hosting a series of public meetings to discuss what’s going down. A meeting will be held on Wednesday, July 20th.

> On Saturday, July 23rd Friends of the Ballona Wetlands will be restoring the last coastal wetland habitat in Los Angeles County. Volunteers get hands-on experience while learning about wetland ecology. Heal the Bay will also be at it for their monthly “Nothin’ But Sand” cleanup in Playa del Rey.

> Want to learn more about the LA River? Friends of the LA River are here to help. Along with Hidden LA the group will be hosting a river tour on Sunday, July 24th.

> Rather plant a garden than a tree? There are plenty of opportunities on Saturday, July 30th. LA County Department of Public Works will be holding free Smart Gardening workshops in Arcadia, Glendora, San Pedro and San Clarita.
