Kick off 2011 Right: Volunteer for a Greener LA!

We bet you made a New Year’s resolution or two, but it’s not too late to add one to the list. How about committing to participate in a few volunteer events this year? We’ll help by listing great events every month right here on the Team Effort blog. Below are some of the events you will find this January!

> Saturday, January 8th, is sure to be a busy one. LA Works will be in Los Angeles hosting a volunteer event at the Daniel Webster School Garden. TreePeople and friends will be pruning fruit trees. Friends of Ballona Wetlands will be in Playa del Rey giving tours of the marsh and the Theodore Payne Foundation will be holding a seminar on native plants.

> Wednesday, January 12th, the Los Angeles and San Gabriel River Watershed Council will be in the Conejo Recreation and Park District educating people about the goldspotted oak borer, which is currently attacking and causing mortality among the oaks of southern California.

> TreePeople will be in Coldwater Canyon on Thursday, January 13th, maintaining trails and removing non-native plants. It’s a fun event, and volunteers are needed!

> Heal the Bay will be in Venice on Saturday, January 15th, cleaning up trash and working hard to beautify one of L.A.’s most beloved beaches. Community Services Unlimited will also be hosting a fruit tree giveaway at Normandie Ave. Elementary School, and they are looking for volunteers to help out!

> On Saturday, January 22nd, the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority is set to hold a rejuvenation outing at Franklin Canyon Park, volunteers are welcome! Friends of Ballona Wetlands will also doing the same thing for coastal wetland habitat. And in Venice Dance 4 Oceans is holding a screening of cool films at its “Sea Pulse” festival about the beauty of our oceans. Viewers needed!

> TreePeople is rounding out the month on Saturday, January 29th, in Wilshire Heights where the group and volunteers will be working to plant 20 trees in the area. So sign up and come on down!
