3 Great Ways to Create an Eco-Friendly Pet Toy
Thanks to a kind donation from Planet Dog, if you comment on our post below and share with us your favorite eco-friendly pet toy or product by December 22nd, you will be entered to win a Planet Dog Eco-Package, which includes a Shammy towel, a RecycleBall, hemp leash, and a bottle of eco-friendly pet shampoo! Woof Woof!! Did you hear that? It’s the holiday season and your little pup is trying to tell you something important, so listen up!
Most of us don’t mind a unique gift and certainly our pets are no exception. Fido wants to be included. So why not consider creating an eco-toy for your four legged loved one? Just like their human friends, pets also love a sustainable treat now and then. We’ll even help you out!
Here are 3 ways to create one on your own.
1) One thing is for certain: dogs love tennis balls; they are chewy, bouncy and just a whole lot of dog-gone fun. Here’s how to make a cool tennis ball dog toy your pooch is sure to love:
2) We bet you never thought you could train your dog with a homemade garden hose toy. Well, it can be done:
3) Since ripped up jeans are sooo early 90’s, why not put them to use for the sake of your little furry friend? Make a dog toy out of that old ripped up pair of blue jeans. Here’s how to do it:
And remember, just post a comment below and share with us your favorite eco-friendly pet toy or product by December 22nd and you’ll be entered in our contest to win a Planet Dog Eco-Package!
We would love to hear from everyone, but please note the contest is only open to city of LA residents.

I love the Trader Joe’s bone shaped dog toy. Its not very expensive and my dog takes a bit longer to tear it to shreds than other toys stuffed with batting and squeaky toys. Plus the stuffing is not bad for the dog and doesn’t end up all over the house!

Our puppies seem to love chewing on empty plastic water bottles… They love the noise and somehow the bottles manage to not completely fall apart!

My dog loves to play with a ball I made out of worn out socks. You make a neat pile of socks, and fold them into a sock ball like your mom used to do for your childhood sock drawer. Stuff the sock ball in a larger sock and knot so you have a small handle. You can play tug o war with it or throw it. Mine even bounces a bit. Sometimes my dog just gives it a chew for comfort.

My dorg loves his soft cotton 1-inch rope that’s knotted at both ends. He chews for days!

when ours was a puppy in his chewing phase, I wrapped a stick with strips of t-shirt and duct tape — kept him entertained for weeks before he decimated it!

Our dog Brownie plays with recycled caps & water bottles & used socks & hangers. Weird toys, but hey it saves us money – we all recycle – and we just watch her carefully to make sure she doesn’t swallow anything.

When our dog Munchkin was a pup I used an empty water bottle placed it inside long Sports socks. I say long socks because in addition to him entertaining himself with the water bottle I was able to play tug-of-war by grabbing on to the longer side and pulling. We had loads of fun. Now he enjoys the tennis ball and occasionally we still play tug of war with old socks or toss and return.
